Obituary of Robert F. Brenner

Robert F. Brenner, age 71, of Clinton Township, NJ, passed away on Saturday May 4, 2024, at his home. He was born on August 2, 1952, in Queens, NY and was the son of the late Robert and the late Margaret (née Coffey) Brenner.

Rob earned his Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Potsdam in 1974 and achieved his Master’s degree from Stevens Institute in 1996. Rob married the love of his life, Florry (née Goldberg) Brenner, on February 14th, 1982. Together they raised 3 sons, DJ, Mike and Joe.

Rob and Florry met as teachers at Maple Hill Junior/Senior High School in Castleton-On-Hudson, NY. After several years of living in Maryland, California, and Pennsylvania, they settled in High Bridge, NJ for 10 years before finding their forever home in Clinton Township over three decades ago. After a career in teaching, Rob was a project manager at AT&T for over 20 years before his retirement. Rob was very active in the Clinton Township community. He sat on the Clinton Township School Board for a number of years, and coached his sons’ teams in basketball, soccer, and baseball. 

Rob was an avid reader, a WWII history buff, a movie/tv show aficionado, and loved a good joke. Florry and Rob spent every morning tackling the daily crossword, and Rob enjoyed keeping up with football, baseball, and golf. Rob had a strong sense of familial duty and took a great deal of pride in his family. “Pop pop” treasured holidays and trips taken with his wife, children, and adoring grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. 

Rob will be forever cherished by his beloved wife of over forty years, Florry Brenner; his three sons, DJ, Mike and his wife Brett, Joe and his wife Sam; grandkids- Rose, Chris, Riley and Lucy; siblings, Carolyn, Steve and his partner Deb, Rich and his wife Colette; brother-in-law Jack and his wife Julie, sisters-in-law Nechama, Janis and her husband John, and Beth and her husband Alan; nieces-Jessica, Elyse, Sarah Kate, Grace, Julia, Sydney, Sunny, Bria, Taylor, Molly and Ashira; nephews-Andrew, James, Ben, Bob, Connor, Reid; and their families. Rob was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Margaret, and also his brother, Neil. 

All who wish to attend may visit with Rob’s family on Friday, May 10th from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Martin Funeral Home, located at 1761 Route 31, Clinton NJ 08809. Funeral service and words of remembrance will be offered at 6:00 PM in the funeral home. To honor Rob’s joyful life, we welcome you to wear colorful attire to celebrate his memory if you feel comfortable. Cremation will follow all services privately.
